Buttonholes by hand
- Silk thread is best for both overcasting and final button stitches.
- Single threading for overcasting
- Double threading for button stitches, using beeswax
- Stitch from right-to-left.
- Although diagram has needle stitching down, it seems easier to stitch from the allowance up through the hole.
- Sewing while facing the wrong side seems to produce the best stitches, with the knots facing towards the right side.
